Spaces OS dispatch #10

Week 13 - Jul 30

Thinking beyond the OS.

Quiet OS

Our current incantation of the OS is mostly seeing a few bug fixes and default flips from NixOS this week (eg: enabling nftables).

The Hermes default agent is still being worked on in the background and will land sometime next week. Hermes in a microvm, connected to sandboxed skills provided by the OS.

Spaces

What is a Space?

A space is a boundary of access for services & data. Shared across machines and users. In its full, it creates personal environments for small groups of people, to operate. Away from SaaS and the general Internet.

We're seeing something emerge. It's still too early to discuss the implementation.

Project Zero

An internal code name for the unwise;

Give an agent full administrative privileges over a Hetzner Cloud account. Hooked on our NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 on it with Qwen3.6. After a few hours, we had a new infrastructure built from scratch, using Clan and SpacesOS.

The infrastructure includes a monitoring box (ClickHouse is great), a box with oh-my-pi and the agent itself running in a loop. And a few other experiments: (eg: we're testing out attractor, a specification for a non interactive coding agent)

As we break things, it will be the feedback loop we need to strengthen and expand SpacesOS.

Qwen 3.6

While playing with Qwen 3.6 we were pleasantly surprised of how effective the model is. It solves real tasks, on accessible hardware.

With its 27 billion parameters it not only beats all other open weight models within the small tier, but also all the ones within the medium tier (models with up to 150 billion parameters), compared across many different capabilities.
